When I pulled up on the block, the first thing I was greeted by were police lights and yellow tape. I chewed on my bottom lip, creeping down the block, praying to God it wasn’t my shorty who was murked. I parked at the end of the street, and hopped out of the car. There were people scattered all around the house. Sticking out like a sore thumb, was Nas. I hadn’t seen nor heard from the shady nigga since Zazz’s crib. Just as I expected, he was curving me. But now, he was posted in the hood like there was nothing going on. He didn’t expect to see me, obviously because when our eyes met, surprise flashed across his face. He looked over his shoulder and ran his hand over the stubble on his chin.

I stood next to him and stuffed my hands in the pockets of my jogging pants, “Who got slumped?”

“Kev,” he sternly replied. “Look bruh, I’ve been—"

“Don’t give a fuck nigga. I’m not here for you. I’m lookin for my shorty. That’s it.”

“Word? I heard she beat the breaks off Shay,” he nodded and I looked in the direction he nodded in. Shay was out there, looking like everybody else was. She didn’t notice me and I wanted to get gone before she did. If that bitch came at me on some nutty shit, I was liable to choke slam her ignorant ass. And with the boys here? Nah, I didn’t need that type of drama. I needed to find Yemi and get ghost. Period.

“Word. You seen her?”

“Hey Azar,” said Tasha from behind me with tears streaming down her face. “You looking for Yemi?”

I nodded, and she grabbed my arm, walking me away from the crowd.

“She left with Raquel after she shot Kevin in the face.”

“Wait, what? Who did what? Yemi did—"

“No, no no. Rocky did,” she stood on her tiptoes, looking towards the house at the police. “Ain’t nobody talking but we all seen it. Anyway, that’s where she is. You need to go get her, Azar. Rocky ain’t…Raquel ain’t who she think she is.”

I cocked my head a little, “What you mean—"

“I mean, my nothing ass boyfriend, he tells me shit. He ain’t supposed to but…” she looked off and then shook her head, “That’s beside the point. Just find Yemi okay?”

“Yo Tasha, what the fuck you telling me,” I called out as she walked off.

She didn’t say anything. She carried on down the street like she didn’t hear me yelling out to her. So, instead of drawing unnecessary attention I told Nas I would see him when I seen him if he didn’t cur up and go into hiding again. He nervously laughed and told me alright. He would disappear again, my gut told me so. But eventually he would resurface. The nigga couldn’t stay away from the hood for too long.
